Original Edwin Edwards etching.
Excellent, clean wiped impression with exceptional clarity.
This view of the river Thames at Pangbourne, near Reading, was drawn directly on to the etching plate on 18th June 1861. The style of naturalism which Edwin Edwards derived from his knowledge of the work of the Barbizon school etchers is clearly apparent in this particular work. Working from nature, directly on to the plate, Edwin Edwards has achieved the sensitive treatment of light and distance found in the Barbizon etchings, without any of the narrative or genre references so often found in Victorian art.
On very fine smooth Japan-style tissue, with full margins. Tipped at corners to original mount and with Edwin Edwards’s original title label. Generally very good original condition. |
