Old Hastings of is one of the largest and certainly most outstanding examples of Guy Malet’s technical genius as a wood engraver, requiring a truly remarkable diversity of engraving styles to produce the enormous range of tones and textures across the townscape depicted. It is clear from this work that Guy Malet possessed an extraordinary understanding of his medium, enabling him to transmit every aspect of a view to the wood with a distinctive yet always accurate flair.
